NAGCARLAN UNDERGROUND CEMETERY

A national historical landmark and museum in Barangay Bambang, Nagcarlan, Laguna supervised by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. It was built in 1845 under the supervision of Franciscan priest, Fr. Vicente Velloc as a public burial site and its underground crypt exclusively for Spanish friars, prominent town citizens and members of elite Catholic families. It is dubbed as the only underground cemetery in the country.

TAKE NOTE: When visiting the place, They don't allow taking pictures with flash. Why? at first, we thought we might capture or disturb some spirits. But when they say the reason why, it gives us a trivia.
They don't allow flashes because it helps them to preserve the place. Camera flash may harm the structure of the historical place.

Perfect view. <3 exactly at the center.

This is my 2nd time to visit this historical underground cemetery and it never fails to amaze me.

The grasses/plants are well-maintained. perfect for picture taking :D

This place is so beautiful. The only one of its kind here in the Philippines. This place can be part of fieldtrips, I can still remember, when I was in highschool this Underground Cemetery is included in our itinerary (list of activities).

When entering the chapel they have a log book for the record of names of the visitors. For them to monitor the no. of visitors, the locations, Schools, etc.

Inside the small chapel, you can see an old lady, one of the caretakers of the Underground Cemetery, selling specialties and souvenirs. You can also interview her for the history of this historical place. We love talking to her. :) She really knows the history of the Underground Cemetery.

Inside the small chapel, you can buy candles and offer it to the small altar.
the ceiling is not that well maintaned. the woods are incomplete. also the drawings, or prints on the walls fade.

I don't want to take pictures under the chapel, coz' I don't want to capture some creepy spirits. (hehehe)
In the Underground, the temperature is a little bit cold. That makes the place a little bit creepy.
